Capitals forward Tom Wilson made his Olympic debut as Team Canada faced Czechia on Thursday. The Canadians had NHL players again as they dominated in a 5-0 shutout win.

Wilson is known for showing his physicality in Capitals games, and he brought that to Milan Cortina. The 31-year-old put up four hits, including a couple notable ones on Radko Gudas and Filip Hronek. Hits may not be an official stat in the Olympics, but that didn’t stop the Capitals alternate captain.

Wilson skated on the top line alongside Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini. He finished with 16:06 of ice time, one shot on goal, and a plus-1 plus/minus.

While Wilson didn’t score, Canada still got goals from Celebrini, Mark Stone, Bo Horvat, Nathan MacKinnon, and Nick Suzuki.

Still, Wilson generated looks in the offensive zone, and his back-checking and two-way play stood out in a solid Olympic debut.

The 31-year-old is having a strong 2025-26 season for the Capitals, as he leads the team with 49 points in 50 games.

Wilson’s Capitals teammate Logan Thompson didn’t get the start for Team Canada. However, Jordan Binnington still stepped up in net with 26 saves to secure the shutout.

The Canadians will next suit up against Switzerland on Friday.
