The Washington Capitals (35-28-9) continue their three-game road trip on Thursday night. Their next stop is the Rocky Mountains where they visit the Utah Mammoth (37-29-6) at Delta Center.

The puck drops at 9:00 p.m. ET.

The Capitals opened the road trip on an extremely low note. They fell flat and were shut out by St. Louis 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Even though the Capitals got some help in terms of playoff chances, it didn’t matter much. Washington now has 10 games remaining on the schedule, with seven of them on the road.

The Capitals weren’t able to figure out Blues goaltender Joel Hofer, who recorded his sixth shutout of the season. Hofer has been hot since the Olympic break, posting a 6-0-2 record.

As for Logan Thompson, he has permitted two or fewer goals against for the eighth time in his last 12 starts. However, he hasn’t gotten much help from the Capitals’ offense to get the win.

Excluding empty-net goals, the Capitals have been held to two or fewer goals scored in 10 of their last 11 games. The team is 4-5-2 through that stretch, only thanks to strong goaltending from Thompson and Charlie Lindgren.

Earlier in the month, the Capitals hosted Utah in D.C. but fell 3-2. With 79 points, Washington is six points shy of a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

Meanwhile, Utah currently holds the first Wild Card spot in the West with 80 points. The team formerly known as the Arizona/Phoenix Coyotes last won a playoff series in 2012.
