The Washington Capitals (32-26-7) begin a midweek set of road back-to-backs on Wednesday night. They will first visit the Philadelphia Flyers (29-23-11) at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Capitals continue a busy week where they play four games in six nights. After Wednesday’s tilt in Philly, the team will head up to Buffalo to face the Sabres on Thursday.

This back-to-back is sandwiched between a set of home games. The Capitals took the first of those home games as they beat Calgary 7-3 on Monday.

The Capitals ended a three-game losing skid (0-3-0) in what turned out to be a thrilling victory. Washington led 3-0, then yielded three Calgary goals, only to finish strong with four of their own.

Two of those Flames tallies were shorthanded and came on a single Capitals power play in the middle frame. Thankfully, Washington’s man advantage came through in the third period when Connor McMichael scored his second goal.

In addition to McMichael’s two goals, Hendrix Lapierre, Tom Wilson, Justin Sourdif, Ethen Frank and Ryan Leonard also contributed. Washington’s seven-goal performance was its largest since they beat Anaheim 7-4 on Jan. 5.

Wednesday’s game will be the third meeting between the Capitals and Flyers this season. These two Metropolitan Division rivals split the first two games, both at home and by two goals.

Since their last meeting on Feb. 25, Philadelphia has won four of six (4-2-0) games. Three of those four victories came in either overtime or a shootout.
