ELMONT, NY– During the first period of the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers game, Morgan Frost took a tripping penalty to put the Islanders on a power play just over seven minutes into the game.

During that power play, Maxim Tsyplakov circled back into his zone for a back check as the Flyers rushed ahead. Tsyplakov then connected with a brutal hit on Ryan Poehling of the Flyers, knocking him off his feet and ultimately injuring the Flyers’ forward.

After no call came on the ice, the referees initiated a review and did not hand down a major penalty to Tsyplakov.

Here’s the hit:

Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella took serious exception to the no call, and lit up the referees for it:

On the same power play, Travis Konecny appears to take a slash from Anders Lee, resulting in a turnover. Off the turnover, Brock Nelson fed Bo Horvat on the backdoor for the game’s opening goal.

At the end of the first, the Islanders led the Flyers 1-0. However, the Flyers seemed fueled by their frustration, and quickly tied the game in the second period.
