The New Jersey Devils are getting forward, Zack MacEwen back in the lineup on Monday when they host the New York Islanders at the Prudential Center.

New Jersey activated MacEwen off injured reserve on Monday.

MacEwen, 29, was injured in his Devils debut against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was limited to just 07:12 of ice time, and accrued one hit, one block, and one takeaway in that span. Against the Bolts, MacEwen registered the hardest shot in the NHL at the time, hitting 99.20 MPH in New Jersey’s victory, according to NHL Edge.

His shot now sits fifth overall, behind Ryan Pulock (101.83), Victor Hedman (101.42), Morgan Geekie (100.86), and Gustav Forsling (100.41).

MacEwen slots on the fourth line alongside Luke Glendening and Paul Cotter.

Coming out of the lineup is Juho Lammikko, as Glendening slides back to center and MacEwen man’s the right-wing.

The Devils reassigned Brian Halonen to the American Hockey League on Sunday, where he will provide a scoring boost for the last place Utica Comets.

In a salary cap saving move, the Devils acquired MacEwen from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Kurtis MacDermid. MacDermid had two years remaining on his deal with New Jersey, with a $1.15 million cap hit.

MacEwen is a pending free agent in the upcoming offseason.

In just one game with the Devils, however, MacEwen has proven to be much more serviceable, as a plus skater, adequate defender, and an obvious plus shot.

MacEwen will make his Prudential Center debut on Monday against the Islanders.
