Well, yesterday was a fun day for New Jersey Devils fans, eh? When one Hughes brothers speaks lately, it tends to make headlines, and that’s exactly what happened when Jack Hughes spoke for the first time since being injured last season.

More on that in the links below.

Also, Devils X-factor’s!

Elsewhere, a possible Sidney Crosby trade? NHL nearing a decision on 2018 Hockey Canada acquitted, and more.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils Trade Rumors & News

New Jersey Hockey Now: It’s well known Quinn Hughes wants to play with his brothers. Jack Hughes is now saying he wants to play with Quinn. The noise around this is just getting louder and louder. And Jack isn’t afraid to say it.

Sportsnet: Speaking of the Hughes brothers, Jack admitted he saw the report that Luke Hughes is looking for a five-year deal. He called it a “shot in the dark.”

To be fair, what’s he going to say? “Yeah, we’re doing that, and walking to free agency?” Nah, that won’t happen. But that doesn’t mean the report holds no credit. Numbers are always thrown around in negotiations, and it seems to me it’s a negotiation tactic. The Devils would be foolish to agree to the five-years, and perhaps they’ve moved past that at this point. Expect a bridge or a max-term deal with an AAV higher than previous projections.

More NJHN: If the Devils are going to take another step in their collective development, they’re probably going to need someone to be an unexpected influence. Here are four players who can serve as the X-factor in 2025-26.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic ($): Is a Sidney Crosby trade actually possible? Well, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain is staying face. But, for the first time ever, his agent hasn’t ruled out the possibility.

CBC.ca: The NHL says they’re nearing a ruling on the status of the five acquitted players involved in the 2018 Hockey Canada sexual assault trial.

He earned my vote as the top rookie this year with an excellent goaltending performance in 2024-25. And although he didn’t win the Calder Trophy, Dustin Wolf cashed in on a max-term extension.

Chicago Hockey Now: Speaking of Wolf, he has perhaps laid the groundwork out for Chicago Blackhawks goaltender, Spencer Knight, who is in the last year of his contract.
