The New Jersey Devils couldn’t be more unlucky in the injury department if they tried. According to a report, New Jersey Devils superstar, Jack Hughes, has suffered an off-ice injury.

According to Elliotte Friedman via Sportsnet, Hughes suffered a hand injury while at a team dinner on Thursday night. Word is he slipped and cut his hand.

The injury is described to Friedman as a “fluke accident” by multiple sources.

Friedman explained, “He is not expected to play Saturday against Washington, but the exact timeline is not yet known.”

In a statement by the Devils, they said, “Jack Hughes is out with a non-hockey, hand injury. He is being evaluated, and we will provide an update as available.”

Jack is amid a season where he has a lot to prove on the injury front. The Devils star suffered back-to-back shoulder injuries that required the same surgery in consecutive summers.

Jack’s injury adds to a long list of Devils who are sidelined.

Such names include Glass, Zack MacEwan, Connor Brown, Evgenii Dadonov, Brett Pesce, Dougie Hamilton, and Johnathan Kovavcevic.

The current Devils’ center depth is Nico Hischier, Juho Lammikko, and Dawson Mercer is Sheldon Keefe decides to utilize him in that position.

The Devils are amid a five-game road trip, with four more games to play on the road before they return home to the Prudential Center on November 24th to play the Detroit Red Wings.
