The Montreal Canadiens (9-3-0) are set to play the Philadelphia Flyers (6-5-1), with the puck drop scheduled for 7 pm ET.

The Habs are riding high after winning their last three games, though two of the match ups necessitated overtime, as Martin St-Louis’ team has struggled to maintain leads early in the season.

As per tradition, the first line did much of the heavy lifting versus the Ottawa Senators, with captain Nick Suzuki extending his point streak to 11 games, and sniper Cole Caufield scoring a goal and an assist.

However, the team actually did receive some offence from players who do not feature on the top line, seeing as it was Alex Newhook who played the hero role, scoring his fifth goal of the season in overtime.

Montreal Canadiens Roster Changes

Heading into Tuesday’s game, all eyes will be on netminder Samuel Montembeault. Head coach Martin St-Louis has opted to start the veteran, rather than rookie Jakub Dobes, in a bid to instill a little confidence in his starter.

Dobes is currently one of the driving forces behind Montreal’s great start to the year, while Montembeault has struggled to make big saves. His high-danger save percentage, in particular, is rather concerning.

Montembeault has stopped just 16 of the 27 high-quality shots sent his way, resulting in an underwhelming .592 save percentage. Compared to Dobes’ .906 save percentage in the same situation, it’s clear that the rookie is currently giving Montreal its best chance to win games.

On the flip side of the coin, St-Louis is well aware that it’s a long season, and that Dobes’ excellence won’t last throughout the year. He wants to get Montembeault going, by hook or by crook.

Bottom Six Modifications

St-Louis has made one change to his bottom six, promoting Joe Veleno to play alongside Jake Evans and Josh Anderson, while Brendan Gallagher will hit the ice with Kirby Dach and Zach Bolduc.

It’s a necessary change, as the team has gotten virtually no semblance of offence from the bottom of the lineup, beyond forward Zach Bolduc. Evans, Anderson, Gallagher, Dach, and Veleno have two 5v5 goals to their credit, combined.
