The Montreal Canadiens (36-19-10) will host the Anaheim Ducks (36-27-3) on Sunday night, with the puck drop scheduled for 7 pm ET.
The Habs are fresh off a 4-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks, the only team that has managed to beat them in the last 11 games. Montreal held an edge in shots, with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield finding the back of the net, but they allowed San Jose over a dozen high-danger scoring chances, a recipe for failure in the NHL.
The Ducks also played on Friday, dropping a 2-0 decision to the Ottawa Senators. In other words, both teams are looking to bounce back after a frustrating Saturday night loss. Statistically speaking, we’re expecting a high-scoring game, as the Ducks, much like the Canadiens, know how to score goals, but struggle to shut down opponents.
Brendan Gallagher was a healthy scratch versus the Sharks, but he will return to the lineup on Sunday. It remains to be seen which player he will replace, as the team did not hold a morning skate. Any lineup changes concerning skaters will be confirmed in the pregame warm-up.
As for the goaltenders, given that Jakub Dobes played yesterday, and Samuel Montembeault has fallen out of favour, rookie netminder Jacob Fowler will start for the Canadiens.
Fowler has maintained a .906 save percentage in his 11 games in the NHL this year, far and away the best result of any goaltender in Montreal.
