The Edmonton Oilers need goalie help ahead of the 2026 NHL trade deadline. Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram have struggled in the net for Edmonton, leading to frustration from star forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Now, the Oilers are in contact with a big-name goalie’s camp on the day of the trade deadline.
Edmonton has been in contact with Florida Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky‘s camp, as reported by Kevin Weekes on TradeCentre. Bobrovsky has been a major part of Florida’s back-to-back Stanley Cups; however, the Panthers are intent on selling ahead of the trade deadline with the playoffs becoming unlikely.
The 37-year-old goalie is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025-26 NHL season, so this would be a rental situation. Florida isn’t fully committed to trading Bobrovsky, as the possibility of an extension during the offseason is still realistic.
However, the Oilers and Bobrovsky’s camp have been in contact, which could be a sign of things to come on Friday. Bobrovsky hasn’t been very strong during the 2025-26 NHL season with a .873 save percentage, but joining a team capable of making the Stanley Cup playoffs could give him a boost.
To make a trade work, Edmonton would likely have to trade Jarry while Florida retains part of Bobrovsky’s salary. It could be worth it for the Panthers if the Oilers are willing to give up good assets in returns. Either way, Edmonton needs goalie help, and whether it’s Bobrovsky or someone else, something needs to be done.
