The Edmonton Oilers are one of the big teams to watch at the NHL trade deadline. As of Tuesday, March 3, Edmonton sits in the final Wild Card spot. However, the lack of production from its goalies is a massive problem. So, what is the latest on the Oilers’ trade plans for goalie over the next few days?
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman believes Edmonton is done addressing its goaltending, as reported on the 32 Thoughts podcast. Connor Ingram, one of the Oilers’ main goaltenders, has a .894 save percentage and recently allowed five goals against the San Jose Sharks. Meanwhile, Tristan Jarry has a .863 save percentage since arriving in Edmonton.
Jarry spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Penguins before being traded for goaltender Stuart Skinner. Over the last four games, the Edmonton goalie has allowed 18 goals and didn’t finish two of those appearances. Needless to say, it has been a massive weakness for the Oilers during the 2025-26 NHL season.
There are several goalies available, such as Florida Panthers‘ Sergei Bobrovsky, but Edmonton seems content with addressing other needs, such as defense. On Monday, the Oilers acquired Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy for a 2028 second-round pick. The improved defense could lead to better goaltending.
While acquiring a better goaltender should be Edmonton’s top priority, that doesn’t appear to be the case heading into Friday’s trade deadline. The Oilers are likely rolling with Ingram and Jarry, while Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl hope for more help moving forward.
