There’s no denying that the Washington Commanders drastically underachieved this season, winning seven fewer games than the season before. They even lost eight games in a row at one point. That type of performance typically gets coaches fired.

When the season ended, the Commanders actually did fire defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr, and they mutually agreed to part ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury too. Kingsbury is now a candidate to become an offensive coordinator elsewhere, possibly even a head coach again.

Recently, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler examined who may take over defensive coordinator duties in Washington. Interestingly enough, Fowler tossed out fired Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris as a possibility to land in D.C as the DC. Another possibility could be the Falcons’ defensive coordinator, Jeff Ulbrich.

“Dan Quinn is long removed from his Atlanta Falcons days, but he could tap into the Falcons tree for his next defensive coordinator hire. Some around the league wonder whether Quinn considers hiring former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, given their close ties. And Morris’ coordinator this season, Jeff Ulbrich, should be a commodity as well. In the Commanders’ search for a new offensive coordinator, some around the league think they could hire someone who has Jayden Daniels work from under center more often for play-action purposes.”

The Commanders’ search for an offensive coordinator will be even more important than finding their next defensive leader. Though it shouldn’t be too difficult to find someone eager to work with Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Deebo Samuel.

As for Morris, the Commanders may have to work quickly to secure the former Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams. Many teams covet experience among their leadership group, and Morris is not only a two-time NFL head coach, but he’s also spent four seasons as a defensive coordinator.

Both factors could work in his favor as teams put together their wishlist of interview candidates, and reuniting with Quinn could be beneficial to everyone involved.
