When the Washington Commanders went from a four-win team in 2023 to one that won 12 games in 2024, head coach Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels were widely credited with their success.

Yet, what about offensive coordinator and play-caller Kliff Kingsbury, who was a key part in improving the scoring offense from 25th to fifth in 2024? He assuredly deserves credit too.

However, now that the Commanders won just five games while seeing the offense fall back to 22nd in scoring, Washington is making a change.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Commanders and Kingsbury have mutually agreed to part ways. Washington reportedly met with Kingsbury at the end of the season to discuss the future direction of the offense. Shortly after, the two sides agreed to move on.

Not only is he a popular candidate to become an offensive coordinator elsewhere, Kingsbury is once again expected to draw head coaching interest.

Another NFL insider, Jordan Schultz, reports that Kingsbury is “expected to interview” with the New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans to fill their head-coaching vacancies. Other teams could soon join the fray.

Kingsbury does have a track record of working with young quarterbacks, whether it’s in college with Patrick Mahomes or Kyler Murray, or in the NFL with Murray and Daniels. If the Cardinals move on from Murray this offseason, as they’re widely expected to do, it’s possible he’ll link back up with Kingsbury for the third time in their professional careers.

The Commanders have also moved on from defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr, meaning coach Quinn will begin the 2026 season with an all-new cast of offensive and defensive leaders.
