The Dallas Cowboys were in a mess at the quarterback position in 2015 because Tony Romo was sidelined much of the season after sustaining two breaks to his clavicle.

Now, franchise legend Troy Aikman is concerned about Romo’s health and longevity for the team.

“I think the collarbone certainly is a concern,” Aikman said on NFL HQ, per NFL Media’s Marc Sessler. “He’s broken it now three times in, I believe, the last five years. As you mentioned, they’re going to go in, they’re going to put a plate in. That should strengthen it, is that going to be enough? I don’t know.”

When the 2016 season gets underway, Romo will be 36 years old. And, he might be just one fall away from another season-ending injury.

Per Sessler, Aikman expressed concern that Romo didn’t take many hits, though the ones he did endure were detrimental due his age. This is something to which Aikman, who played 12 NFL seasons, can relate.

Aikman also recently predicted either Robert Griffin III or Johnny Manziel will be in Dallas next year.

The Cleveland Browns are all but finished with Manziel and his questionable off-field behavior. Furthermore, Washington’s benching of RGIII and demotion to third-string quarterback serves as notice that the team will likely be moving on from him as well.

While Romo might return and play a complete and healthy 2016 season, it is only a matter of Father Time striking again, so the Cowboys must be better prepared. Considering Manziel’s baggage, though, Griffin would at least make for a more peaceful addition to the Dallas roster.

Or, the Cowboys could use their No. 4 overall pick and target one of the top college prospects in the 2016 NFL draft. Either way, an upgrade behind Romo is a must this offseason.
