The Las Vegas Raiders are making progress in their search to find a head coach to replace Pete Carroll. They’re one of six NFL teams yet to decide on a new coach for the 2026 season.
Yet, based on the latest reporting, the Raiders appear to be getting close to naming a new head coach. The race may even be down to a trio of candidates.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Raiders are “believed to be focusing on an offensive-minded head coach to pair with the likely No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza.” Furthermore, Schultz named a trio of candidates the Raiders have been closely associated with.
Schultz notes that Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Denver Broncos pass-game coordinator/QB coach Davis Webb have been mentioned “a lot” internally. He also tossed out Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as another popular candidate in Las Vegas.
None of the three has any prior head coaching experience, and each is viewed as a young, up-and-comer. Kubiak is just 38. Webb, a former NFL QB, is just 30, and Minter is the oldest at 42. Yet, each coach had a heavy hand in their team’s respective playoff success, and now the next step may be to become a head coach.
If the Raiders are zeroed in on Kubiak or Webb, they’ll have to wait until their teams either clinch a trip to the Super Bowl or until their seasons end to interview them again. That could give Minter the upper hand if Las Vegas wants to make a quick decision. Otherwise, if, as Schultz says, the Raiders prefer an offensive mind, then the job could be down to Kubiak or Webb.
