When the Pittsburgh Steelers hired head coach Mike McCarthy two weeks ago, it wasn’t hard to connect the dots between him and Aaron Rodgers. The dynamic duo spent 13 seasons together when McCarthy was head coach of the Green Bay Packers. They even won a Super Bowl in 2010.

McCarthy is locked into Green Bay for the next five seasons. Meanwhile, Rodgers’ contract is set to expire this offseason. Of course, the team could bring the future Hall of Fame quarterback back for another season. But does McCarthy want the 42-year-old to be his QB in 2026?

McCarthy addressed that topic in his introductory press conference to the Pittsburgh media on Tuesday. In case there were any doubts, yes, McCarthy would definitely like to have Rodgers back in Pittsburgh next season.

Yet, like Rodgers recently admitted and as McCarthy alluded to, the veteran QB would like some time to ponder his future. Although at this point, if Rodgers does decide to play a 22nd NFL season, it’s hard to imagine there being a better fit than in Pittsburgh with his former head coach.

Rodgers not only won a Super Bowl with McCarthy, but he also won two of his four NFL MVP awards under him. He also became a three-time All-Pro, helping contribute to a Hall of Fame career. Now the two could be in for another ride, this time in Pittsburgh rather than Green Bay.
