The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the NFL’s best teams for the bulk of the season. Yet, they’ve experienced some lumps as of late. First, they lost to the Los Angeles Rams by just two points. A week later, Seattle came within just six points of defeat against the Tennessee Titans, one of the worst teams in the league.
Yet, the Seahawks have played better in the past two weeks, beating opponents by 26 and 28 points in each victory. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t more changes afoot.
On Thursday, the Seahawks revealed that they’ve placed one-time Pro Bowl cornerback Shaquill Griffin on release waivers. This gives all the other 31 teams a chance to place a claim on Griffin.
Yet, if Griffin goes unclaimed, he can always join the Seahawks’ practice squad if both sides are interested. Either way, it’s a fairly minor transaction, considering Griffin has only appeared in two games this season, but he did start one of them.
Still, he’s only tallied seven tackles and no other stats in his limited action thus far. In other words, it’s not hard to see why the Seahawks deemed him expendable for now. While he’s spent time with five NFL organizations, the Seahawks are the one Griffin has been with the longest. He’s spent five seasons with them, making 59 of his 108 NFL appearances in a Seahawks uniform.
Yet, now that Griffin is 30 years old, he’s been bouncing around from organization to organization for the past five years. We’ll see if that continues over the next few days.
