Future Hall of Famers Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady were tied at the hip during decade together with the New England Patriots and two years as teammates in Tampa Bay.

Not a single time did we see drama develop between the two as they helped their teams to a combined four Super Bowl titles together.

With both now retired and likely having too much time on their hands, that has changed to an extent. In his recent Let’s Go” podcast, Brady actually criticized the NFL for being too soft.

“Football is a physical sport, there’s a physical element to all of this. You throw a 15-yard flag for something that, you know, 20 years ago maybe wouldn’t have had a flag. That affects the game in a big way. There’s so many people that want it less and less physical, it’s more like flag football, which is going to be in the Olympics in 2028,” Brady said. “Maybe football goes to flag football over a period of time.”

Tom Brady on the NFL being too soft

It’s pretty hilarious that Brady would criticize the NFL for being soft less than a calendar year after he retired from the game. That criticism never came during his brilliant career when the quarterback benefited from a lack of physicality on a continual basis.

Gronk decided to point that out in typical Gronk-like response to his former teammate.

“I mean, it was already flag football for you, brother. Some of those calls for you last year, they barely touched you, especially the call with the Atlanta Falcons,” Rob Gronkowski said on the Up and Adams show. “They were getting a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty.”

Let’s check in on what Gronkowski was talking about:

Oh boy.

“All the rules go in your favor, Tom,” Gronk said. “You’re not playing anymore, that’s why you’re saying that.”

It’s kinda hard not to agree with Gronkowski’s sentiment here.

As for flag football, the future Hall of Fame tight end is actually interested in playing for Team USA as the sport makes its debut in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Perhaps, Brady will join him.
