With training camp continuing to roll on, we are getting so close to seeing some real football games be played. The New England Patriots are over halfway done with their training camp schedule, and the team recently had its annual scrimmage last Friday.

It was exciting to see the team play against itself in the scrimmage, and the players clearly enjoyed it. Overall, some players stood out, like safety Jaylinn Hawkins, while others struggled, like Drake Maye and Will Campbell. There’s still a month until the regular season, though, and a lot could still change between now and then.

One of the players who has not been able to impress so far is cornerback Carlton Davis II. Davis was one fo the team’s marquee free agent additions this offseason, and it’s expected that the veteran will pair with Christian Gonzalez to give the Patriots one of the best cornerback duos in the league.

So far, though, Davis has been dealing with a lingering injury. The corner began camp on the injury list and has yet to acutally practice this summer. Davis did make his first appearance last Wednesday, but he did not suit up with his teammates. As a result, some fans are beginning to worry about Davis’ availability as Week 1 rapidly approaches.

NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran talked about Davis and addressed the concerned fans on a recent episode of the Patriots Talk podcast.

“I have seen Carlton Davis twice in the last 24 hours, both times he was taking part in some rehab football activities, or at least was going from those activities. He was in football uniform. It’s not time to start saying it was a horrendous free agent signing,” said Curran.

Obviously, it’s ludicrious to start questioning the signing already before any games have been plaid. It is understanding for fans to be concerned, though, especially considering Gonzalez has also been dealing with an injury.
