A new report reveals several updates on the New York Jets quarterback plans for next season, including a trade target who has not been in recent rumors.
Last year, the NY Jets made one of the first big splashes of the offseason when they signed former first-round pick Justin Fields after a productive season in limited action with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Unfortunately, his six starts in 2024 turned out to be fool’s gold, and he was a free agent disaster. Throwing for under 100 yards in four of his nine starts.
Fields’ disappointing performance puts the NY Jets in a position where they must again seek out an upgrade at the QB spot this offseason. While the team has been linked to a potential trade for Arizona Cardinals signal-caller Kyler Murray, it seems they may be looking at a different QB from the Cards.
According to SNY NFL insider Connor Hughes, while the NY Jets may be open to a Murray trade, he claims they may instead be looking to make a deal for his backup, Jacoby Brissett. The report jives with recent news that claimed the organization wanted to add a veteran QB at a bargain rate this offseason.
NY Jets could target QB in Day 3 of NFL Draft

Heading into the offseason, many wondered if the team would use one of its early picks on a QB prospect in April’s NFL Draft. Unfortunately, this year’s class of arms is weak, and it’s not a lock that a second is selected in Round 1 after Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza goes first overall.
Hughes also reported that the NY Jets are not expected to use a pick on Day 1 or 2 of the draft on a QB because of how weak the class is. However, he added that they may choose to target a trade for Brissett over Murray because they are considering selecting a QB on Day 3 of the event.
Players like Taylen Green (Arkansas), Cade Klubnik (Clemson), Carson Beck (Miami), and Drew Allar (Penn State) could all be available during Rounds 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the draft.
