A new New York Jets rumor lets Gang Green fans know they can expect more bad quarterback play in 2026.

Among the many questions the NY Jets have going into March is what they will do at the QB spot next season. A year ago, they made one of the first big splashes in free agency when they signed former first-round pick Justin Fields after a productive season in limited action with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Unfortunately, his six starts in 2024 turned out to be fool’s gold, and he was a disaster for the NY Jets last season. In his nine starts in 2025, the former Chicago Bears first-rounder threw for under 100 yards four times.

It has created speculation for months about how the team will address the position in March. Will they use a draft pick in April on a QB prospect? Could they trade for a veteran signal-caller like Kyler Murray or Deshaun Watson? Or maybe they will invest money in another option in free agency?

According to Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports, it’s likely they will attempt a trade to add a veteran QB in the weeks ahead. But it won’t come anywhere close to the big-name players that should be available.

NY Jets could target Davis Mills in the offseason

“Much of the narrative outside the league has centered around the team potentially making a trade for Kyler Murray. Yet people in the league tell me if general manager Darren Mougey gets his way, the Jets will look to bring in a less-expensive signal caller, and two names keep entering the conversation: Tanner McKee and Davis Mills,” Pauline reports.

McKee was a sixth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 and has played in just six games during his three seasons in the NFL. In his two starts, he’s had solid performances and has a 1-1 record. Including a 20-13 win over the New York Giants in 2024, where he passed for 269 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Mills is a name NY Jets fans will be more familiar with after he was thrust into a starting role for the Houston Texans during the 2021 and 2022 seasons after Watson was suspended following sexual assault allegations. He has an 8-19-1 record as a starter. However, he went 3-0 this past season, including a 292-yard throwing day in a big win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in November.

Either way, the pair of veteran backups is not going to excite NY Jets fans. A case can be made that neither is better than Fields, which means there could be more bad QB play for Gang Green in 2026.
