We’ve reached the slow portion of the offseason, where leftover veterans are still hoping to land one of 90 roster spots on any of the 32 NFL teams. One team that has undergone significant change after hiring a new head coach, the New York Giants, has been a popular destination for some.

We’ve seen past Giants come out and say they’d love to play for new coach John Harbaugh. That even includes Jason Pierre-Paul. But it turns out, he’s not the only former Giants franchise icon who wants to rejoin Big Blue for the 2026 season.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has also been vocal about returning to the NFL after spending 2025 out of the game. But OBJ doesn’t simply want to be rostered on any of the teams; he wants to play for the Giants.

Yet, as Sports Illustrated‘s Albert Breer opines, the idea of signing Beckham may be better than actually adding him to the team.

“Do I think this can be a really cool story of a guy who just wants to play football again? I do. And I’m all for it becoming that. But let’s not turn it into something it’s not.”

Breer goes on to relay several truths regarding where the 33-year-old receiver is in his career. Not only did Beckham not play football last season, but he also hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2019, the first year after he was traded from the Giants.

It gets worse.

Beckham hasn’t even had a game where he topped 20 yards since 2023. In other words, it’s hard to imagine how a younger player who may be more equipped to help on special teams wouldn’t be a more ideal long-term fit for a Giants team that likely already has their top four receivers on the roster.
