In the NFL, teams are always trying to find their franchise quarterback. As we’ve seen, the addition of an impact player can drastically turn around the fate of a franchise. Look at how Joe Burrow helped the Cincinnati Bengals go from having the NFL’s worst record in 2019 to making a Super Bowl appearance in 2021.
The Bengals have been trying to return to the promised land ever since, but building a complete roster around their superstar quarterback has proven difficult. Injuries and a woeful defense have been major factors, but Burrow hasn’t been able to play in a postseason game since 2022. Now, some wonder if Burrow and the Bengals are headed for a split.
Specifically, Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer noted that he’s “keeping an eye” on those Burrow trade rumors this offseason in anticipation of a potential deal.
“I wanna see what happens with Joe Burrow,” Glazer said. “I just … I wanna keep my eye on it. I think people are gonna go after it. Doesn’t mean [the Bengals] are gonna be willing to do it, but I think people are gonna go after it.”
As Glazer notes, just because teams will come calling, it doesn’t mean the Bengals are ready to swing a trade. After all, a trade of that magnitude will require multiple first-round picks and/or quality players, and the Bengals would need to find another franchise quarterback.
