As if it wasn’t already clear, after firing general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah last week, it became obvious that the Minnesota Vikings aren’t happy with their recent performance. Considering they spent well over $100 million in free agency last season and somehow fell from 14-3 in 2024 to 9-7 in 2025, it’s no surprise that the Vikings weren’t pleased with the results.

In some cities, that effort would lead to a head coaching change, but the Vikings love what they have in Kevin O’Connell, who’s led the team to a 43-25 record across four seasons. While they didn’t feel coaching was the issue, clearly there’s a problem with the roster, and in Minnesota, the conversation centers around the quarterback.

The Vikings may be willing to be patient with J.J. McCarthy, the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Yet, after seeing him be limited to just 10 out of a possible 34 games since being drafted, the Vikings may be prepared to make other plans at QB. Especially if that QB is a proven franchise solution.

According to The Athletic‘s Alec Lewis, the Vikings are prepared to take a swing for the fences if a superstar like Joe Burrow unexpectedly becomes available on the trade block.

“If a player like Joe Burrow is available via trade, I expect the Vikings to do everything they possibly can to make that happen. It’s more a question of what is available, and how far from a cost perspective is it gonna take.”

Obviously, if Burrow hit the trade block, it likely means McCarthy’s days as a Viking are done. While he did have a rough debut season in Minnesota, the 23-year-old QB would still hold some trade value around the league. Yet, the Vikings would surely still have to fork over at least two first-round picks plus more in the process.

Though, if it means landing a QB who’s already made two conference championship appearances, then the Vikings are apparently prepared to pay the proper price.
