On Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars play their second game in a row in London when they take on the Buffalo Bills at 9:30 AM ET. It’s become commonplace for the Jaguars to play in London, having done so ten times, not counting Week 5’s upcoming addition. Now, according to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, the league could start hosting games in other countries aside from the UK, Canada, Germany, and Mexico as soon as 2024.
“We actually have three or four markets that are here this weekend and next weekend that are interested in hosting a game.”
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell
Goodell added that two of the countries in consideration include Brazil and Spain, where league officials have scouted sites such as Rio de Janeiro and San Paolo in Brazil and Madrid in Spain.
If a game heads to Spain, chances are, we’ll see teams such as the Chicago Bears or Miami Dolphins in action, as both teams have commercial rights in Spain. The Dolphins also hold rights in Brazil and are the only team to do so.
While the NFL will have hosted two games from London after Sunday’s scrum, later on this season, we’ll see the International Series continue when the Miami Dolphins battle the Kansas City Chiefs at Frankfurt Stadium in Frankfurt, Germany, in Week 9. The following week, it will be the Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots, also at Frankfurt Stadium.
