There are a lot of changes coming to the New York Jets‘ coaching staff after Aaron Glenn’s first season. Both the offensive and defensive coordinators were fired. The Jets have already found their new defensive coordinator, hiring Brian Duker from the Miami Dolphins.
Though, with Glenn expected to call plays on defense in 2026, Duker’s role arguably isn’t as crucial as finding the right offensive coordinator, who will also serve as the team’s play-caller. Now, the Jets are getting closer to hiring a new offensive coordinator too.
Before the Jets can announce a hire, they have to find the right candidate. With the Jets reaching the second round of interviews for their offensive coordinator vacancy, the finalists are already emerging.
According to Josina Anderson, the Jets are interviewing Darrell Bevell from the Miami Dolphins on Monday. He’s been serving as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator in Miami for the past four seasons. Yet, Bevell would bring 15 seasons of experience as an NFL offensive coordinator. One of those seasons ended with Bevell helping the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII.
In other words, the Jets’ offense would be in good hands with Bevell. Yet, the Jets also have a second-round interview set with former Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman. They’ve also interviewed former Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers head coach at least once (if not twice).
Add it all up, and the Jets seem to be prioritizing candidates with previous play-calling experience, which makes sense if they hope to have a quick turnaround. Now they just need to find the right fit and hope he can help improve upon their three-win season from 2025.
