Despite making their disinterest known publicly, and reportedly in private, the New York Jets expect to be forced into doing one of the league’s least popular television shows.

The New York Jets 2023 training camp will be one of the organization’s most important in quite some time. That’s what happens when you trade for a league legend like Aaron Rodgers and immediately change expectations from just trying to make the playoffs to being a legitimate contender to win the Super Bowl.

Along with Rodgers, there are several other new faces in Allen Lazard, Randal Cobb, and a slew of rookies from the 2023 NFL Draft. With so much riding on this upcoming season, it is no surprise that the organization wants complete focus on training camp and nothing else heading into the new season. However, they may be forced to play the role of football players and entertainers this summer.

While at one time HBO’s training camp series “Hard Knocks” was a popular piece of summer NFL content for fans and a show that players looked forward to taking part in, the brand has lost its luster in recent years. Especially with organizations around the league who have zero interest in doing the honors for the yearly series.

The league has a formula that chooses which teams could be assigned the role of being on the show, and the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, and Washington Commanders have made it known subtly or blatantly they don’t want to take part. The league recently looked for volunteers and again they found no takers. Meaning one of the four teams will likely be forced into the role.

On Monday, NBC Sports NFL insider Mike Florio reported that many inside the New York Jets expect to be thrust into being this year’s “Hard Knocks” training camp team, whether they like it or not. And unfortunately for Gang Green, they are the most interesting subject of the quartet.

There is already a high-level of interest in how the team does in 2023, and fans around the league getting to see an in-depth looking at the mercurial Rodgers bonding with his new teammates is sure to garner far more interest than most seasons of the series.
