New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard will be a healthy scratch against the Miami Dolphins in the NFL’s first ever Black Friday game, according to SNY’s NFL reporter Connor Hughes.
Lazard, 27, joined the Jets on a $44 million deal this offseason after spending the previous four seasons with the Green Bay Packers. The 6-foot-5 wide receiver figured to be a key figure for a Jets team with Super Bowl aspirations following the acquisition of four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.
This season, Lazard has recorded 290 yards on 20 receptions and a lone touchdown. Lazard along with running back Breece Hall and 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson were expected to be focal points to a talented offense, but Rodgers’ injury derailed those plans.
The Jets are 4-6 and battling for a wild card spot in the AFC after several lackluster performances from backup quarterback Zach Wilson. They announced earlier this week that Wilson will be benched for this game.
Lazard has struggled this season with drops and self-inflicting penalties. In Nov. 6’s 27-6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, he was called for two penalties that negated a first down and kept his team behind the sticks. With Lazard being out for today’s game, the Jets expected receivers will be Xavier Gipson, Jason Brownlee, Irvin Charles, and Randall Cobb.
