Who will be the New York Jets starting quarterback Sunday against the Washington Commanders? Zach Wilson is still in the concussion protocol. Tim Boyle, who started two games for the team this season, isn’t even on the roster anymore. He signed to Houston’s practice squad on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the team surprisingly activated four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers to the active roster for the first time since suffering his Achilles injury on Sept. 11. But that doesn’t mean Rodgers will be quarterbacking the Jets in Week 16 or any other week this season for that matter.
Instead, Robert Saleh said Rodgers is simply being activated so he can continue practicing with his teammates, building chemistry with his receivers heading into next season. In other words, under no circumstance will Rodgers actually take the field and play in a game for the Jets again this season.

Rodgers is still not quite at 100% health-wise, yet if the Jets weren’t just eliminated from the playoffs this past Sunday, we’d likely see the 40-year-old in the starting lineup for Week 16’s matchup against the Commanders.
Instead, expect Trevor Siemian to get another chance, with Brett Rypien backing him up, as Rodgers helps from the sideline.
