The New York Giants were one of two teams who fired their head coaches well before the 2025 NFL season ended. That gave owner John Mara and general manager Joe Schoen a head start in evaluating potential head coaching candidates who could replace Brian Daboll.
Though, some of the best candidates didn’t even become available until Monday and Tuesday. Now, one of them has spent an extensive amount of time with the Giants’ top brass.
Specifically, the Giants spent Tuesday night meeting with former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski over dinner. Stefanski and the Giants’ meeting is spilling over into Wednesday too, suggesting the Giants are extremely interested in hiring the two-time NFL Coach of the Year.
However, he’s not the only candidate that has piqued New York’s interest. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that the Giants are also “exploring John Harbaugh” too, who was just fired from the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Giants have also scheduled an interview with former Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike McCarthy too. That interview is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
All three appear to be strong candidates for the Giants’ job. Stefanski and McCarthy have a history working with young quarterbacks. New York may feel like Stefanski and/or McCarthy could help maximize Jaxson Dart’s potential.
Meanwhile, Harbaugh is arguably the best coaching candidate on the market and an unexpected addition into the carousel. He may not have initially been in the Giants’ plans, but it would be almost criminal not to interview the coach who ranks 14th on the NFL’s all-time coaching wins list.
