The New York Giants hired John Harbaugh two weeks ago, but they’re still working on assembling the rest of his coaching staff. While the Giants have already found a new defensive coordinator and special teams coach, the offensive coordinator search is still ongoing.
On Thursday, the Giants were connected to two more OC candidates. One, is Jim Bob Cooter from the Indianapolis Colts, who managed to get better production out of Daniel Jones than the Giants did.
The other is a candidate the Giants would like to interview, Colts passing game coordinator Alex Tanney. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because he was once known as the undrafted ‘trick-shot’ QB who spent time with eight different organizations during his playing days between 2012 and 2020. Though he’d only appear in two games.
Once Tanney’s playing days were done, he latched on with the Philadelphia Eagles as an offensive quality control coach in 2021. A year later, he became known as their assistant QB coach and offensive consultant. In 2023, he became Philadelphia’s QB coach.
Then, Tanney joined the Colts as their offensive passing game coordinator in 2024, and he’s been there since. Tanney would appear to be a long shot to land New York’s playcalling gig, but maybe the 38-year-old is ready for the opportunity, and the Giants intend to find out what he’s made of.
