The New York Giants will reportedly interview a coach who has the potential to turn Jaxson Dart into a big-time star, because he just did it with a QB Big Blue fans considered a draft bust.

Despite an ugly 4-13 finish this past season, there is actually a lot of excitement around the NY Giants heading into the offseason. The reason? His name is John Harbaugh. The hiring of the former Baltimore Ravens coach has created hope that they can be a team with the potential to post double-digit win seasons consistently.

Since he officially took over as head coach, Harbaugh has been working to rearrange the infrastructure of the football side of the organization and build his coaching staff for 2026. When reports emerged that the NY Giants and the 63-year-old were close on a deal, rumors claimed his former offensive coordinator in Baltimore, Todd Monken, would join him in New York.

That, however, is no longer an option after Monken was named the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns this week. Harbaugh must now seek out a new OC, and he is reportedly set to chat with a very interesting option soon.

According to Peter Schrager of ESPN, “The Giants are going to meet with Jim Bob Cooter to discuss their vacant OC job.” His name may be familiar to some G-Men fans because he has been the offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts for the last three seasons.

The Colts came up on the radar of NY Giants fans often last season because the team’s first-round pick in 2019 and their former starting QB, Daniel Jones, was Indy’s QB this past season. And after looking like an injury-prone NFL Draft bust over the first six years in the league, Jones had a huge career renaissance under Cooter in 2025.

Before he eventually suffered a tough-luck season-ending injury late in the season, Jones was a borderline MVP candidate. In 13 starts, he threw for 3,101 yards, connected on a career-best 68% of his passes, and had 19 touchdowns to eight interceptions. He also ran for 164 yards and five more TDs on the ground.

Jones was the best version of himself under the Colts OC. Current NY Giants starting QB Jaxson Dart has a pretty similar skill set to the former G-Men QB. Since Jones was a perfect fit in the coach’s system, it makes sense that Dart can be as well.

Without a doubt, getting to hand the ball off to Jonathan Taylor played a role in Jones’ 2025 success. However, if they can return healthy, Big Blue has some high-impact youngsters on offense as well, in Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo. So if the NY Giants hire Cooter, the potential is really there to turn him into the team’s next franchise QB.
