Entering the day with 22 sacks this year, Myles Garrett needed just one more to break the record for most sacks in a single season in NFL history. It took him a while, but Garrett got the job done.
In the fourth quarter, with just over 5 minutes left in the game, Garrett quickly beat Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. off the edge to record his record-breaking sack on Joe Burrow.

Garrett now ranks ahead of Michael Strahan, whose 22.5 sacks stood as the record since 2001 when he sacked Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre. Though Al Baker also recorded 23 sacks for the Detroit Lions back in 1978. In that sense, this means Garrett is tied with Baker for the all-time record, but it will be Garrett’s name at the top of the official record books.
Set to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, Garrett has recorded eight consecutive seasons with double-digit sacks. He’s undoubtedly one of the NFL’s best players, and he could be in line for yet another raise this offseason after getting a four-year, $160 million contract last year.
Or, it’s possible Garrett will ask for a trade out of Cleveland again. Teams will surely try their best.
