Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns were doubted heavily before the season began. The over/under on their expected win total was set at just 5.5 wins. The Browns won’t clear that number, so anyone who bet the under will be a bit richer than before.
However, failing to even reach those low expectations could result in the end of Stefanski’s tenure in Cleveland.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the “league-wide expectation” is that the Browns are “likely to make changes, and Kevin Stefanski is believed to be on the hottest seat in the organization.”
While the Browns could very well rip up the remainder of Stefanski’s contract, of which the specific details are unknown to the public, Schultz notes that Cleveland could also try trading the two-time Coach of the Year. Several teams will be changing head coaches this offseason, and Stefanski’s six seasons of NFL head coaching experience could help his résumé stand out.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting a similar story. PFT’s report says “the current vibe in the building is that coach Stefanski’s tenure will end, after Sunday’s game against the Bengals.”
Stefanski has been the lead man in Cleveland since 2020, when he helped lead the Browns to an 11-5 record. He also led them to a postseason appearance in 2023. If Stefanski really is done in Cleveland, he’ll end with a 1-1 record in the postseason, and he entered today’s game with a 44-56 record in the regular season.
