Michelle Manziel, the mother of football player Johnny Manziel, was arrested Saturday for driving while intoxicated in Kerrville, Texas. TMZ Sports posted a mugshot of mama Manziel and reported that she was being held under $7,500 bail. TMZ did report that the bail has been paid and that Michelle Manziel has been released from custody. 0

Kerrville is about 65 miles northwest of San Antonio. The Manziels have had roots there for quite some time – Johnny attended Tivy High School in the area before he committed to Texas A&M – where he won a Heisman Trophy – and eventually played 14 NFL games. He was selected 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately, run-ins with the law regarding substances are decently common in the Manziel family: Johnny himself admitted to drinking and driving in 2015 while he was a member of the Cleveland Browns. His cousin, Bobby Joe Manziel, was reportedly sentenced to four years in jail for as a result of a DWI.

“Johnny Football” was once a promising athlete but, sadly, his NFL career was derailed by substance abuse issues, which he detailed in a Netflix documentary. In the documentary, he revealed that he frequently used OxyContin and cocaine after the 2015 season, shortly before the Browns released him, and said that he refused to enter rehab on two occasions.

Johnny credited his return to the sport to a heart-to-heart with his mother, and he joined the Canadian Football League in 2018. He last played in the Fan Controlled Football League in 2022.
