Late-night television host David Letterman’s filter apparently went unchecked in an interview with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick on Wednesday.

Taking it to the four-time Super Bowl-winning coach (in a playful way), Letterman grilled Belichick on the now infamous Deflate-gate scandal.

And it was epic.

Actually. Even more epic than Letterman’s question was Belichick’s response and the look on his face.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Letterman: “I know you know exactly what happened, you know I know you know, and what it was, was some kind of horseplay, am I right?”

Belichick: “No.”

Letterman would then go on to ramble about how they had footballs in the studio and how the difference was real between a properly inflated football and an under-inflated football.

At which point, Belichick responded…

Well, as we all know, as the footballs get colder, they deflate.

The two would go on to banter for some time. However, it was the all-around silliness of the conversation that takes the cake. Letterman was in no way serious, and the studio audience got a major laugh out of the entire thing.

Oh, and Letterman did something not many people can do—make Belichick actually smile.
