The Green Bay Packers had the NFL’s eighth-ranked scoring offense last season, and they did so without having a receiver top 900 yards. They did have four different players tally 600 or more receiving yards, and all of them were 25 or younger, which gives hope that they can develop into more impactful contributors.
Yet, this is a Packers team that has already won 11 games and reached the playoffs, and they’re ready to win now. Plus, Christian Watson, who many regard as the Packers’ top receiver, tore his ACL and may not be available for the start of the 2025 season.
Now, one of his teammates, Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs, is calling for the Packers to find some receiver upgrades this offseason.

Josh Jacobs says Green Bay Packers need WR upgrades

There’s no doubt the Green Bay Packers’ receiving corps has a lot of potential, but they can’t afford to wait and see if potential develops into star talent.
When appearing on PFT Live, Josh Jacobs revealed one change he’d like to see this offseason: for the Packers to add a bonafide No. 1 receiver that Jordan Love can consistently rely on. Yet, he also mentioned a few other positions that he’d like to see Packers GM Brian Gutekunst address this offseason.
“I would say, you know, I think we need another D-end. I think we need another DB,” Jacobs said. “And I think we need a wide receiver. I love the guys that we have in the receiving room,” Jacobs added. “They all have the potential to be [a No.] 1. But we need a guy that’s proven to be [a No.] 1.”

Even if it could rub some people the wrong way, many would agree with Jacobs’ take. On the bright side, there could be a number of top receivers available this offseason, from potential trades for D.K. Metcalf or signing top free agents like Tee Higgins or Stefon Diggs.
There’s always the option of trying to target a receiver in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, yet the Packers, who have the 23rd overall pick, may have to trade up to get one of the best receivers available. Either way, expect the Packers to consider receiver upgrades once the offseason officially gets underway.
