The 2024 NFL Draft may have just concluded, but before you know it, we’ll be counting down the days until Super Bowl LIX kicks off on February 9. We may be far away from learning who’s set to take the field at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, but broadcasting companies are already getting prepared.
Fox Sports, who’s set to host the 2025 Super Bowl, is already trying to sell ads for the big game. Last year Super Bowl commercials reportedly cost anywhere between $6.5 and $7 million. This year, Fox is aiming even higher.
Super Bowl ads cost ‘at least’ $7 million per 30 seconds
Now, according to Variety’s Brian Stenberg, Fox is seeking at least $7 million per 30-second Super Bowl ad. One buying executive with knowledge of the situation was doubtful that the starting price would lead to an eager pool of buyers, saying they likely wouldn’t be “chomping at the bit” at that cost.
Considering CBS Sports was able to sell all its commercial inventory by November of last year, Fox likely won’t have trouble finding suitors this time around either. In fact, despite CBS selling out early, once Super Bowl LVIII reached overtime, the company had to kick into high gear, reaching out to key sponsors with interest in getting an ad aired in overtime. This led to an additional $60 million of commercial sales.
Yet, Fox has been here before too. Back in 2022, they managed to sell 95% of their Super Bowl commercial air space by September. So, while some executives are balking at the cost, it’s only a matter of time before the first domino falls.
