The 2026 season is one of the most important seasons in the 102-year history of the New York Giants franchise.

After the team parted ways with Tom Coughlin following the 2015 season, there would be a coaching carousel in the 10 seasons that followed. During this span, the Giants have gone 55-109-1, with only one playoff win and zero division titles.

But now that the team is being led by another Super Bowl-winning coach and John Harbaugh, there’s optimism that he will turn the franchise’s fortunes around. It won’t be easy for the 63-year-old head coach to turn New York into champions again. But if he’s going to accomplish this feat, he’ll have to guide the team in ending some embarrassing streaks.

If a team isn’t going to have success in the NFL, first and foremost, they need to take care of business in their division. This is something Big Blue hasn’t done in a decade and a half, as they haven’t won the division since 2011, which is the same year as their last Super Bowl title.

Since then, every other team in the NFC East has won the division at least three times, and New York has gone 32-52 in the division. This year, the division seems wide open, and if Big Blue can put an end to its division title drought, it will be a sign that this is the dawn of a new day.

Haven’t won in Philadelphia since 2013

Teenagers who are Giants fans may not remember the last time New York won in Philadelphia, because this occurred back on October 27th 2013. Since then, it’s been 12 consecutive crushing losses for Big Blue in the City of Brotherly Love.

It seems unfathomable that a team could lose 12 consecutive games in one city that they play every year. The team has a chance to finally put an end to this dubious streak in Week 9 following their bye week. Ironically, the Philadelphia Eagles are where Harbaugh landed his first NFL job in 1998 as their special teams coordinator.

Another place that has been a house of horrors for New York is Dallas, as they haven’t won there since Dak Prescott’s NFL debut in Week 1 of the 2016 season. The Giants have come close to ending this streak on a number of occasions, including last season’s 40-37 overtime loss in Week 2.

The Giants will open the 2026 season at home against the Cowboys, but they’ll have to wait until Week 17 to put an end to their losing streak in Dallas. There’s a good chance the game could have playoff implications, which will be the perfect time for the team to get its first win in Big D in 10 years.

Last double-digit winning season was 2016

The Giants are one of the marquee franchises in the NFL, but it’s been a long time since they’ve played at an elite level. The last time they had a double-digit win season was in 2016, when they went 11-5 and finished second in the NFC East. Even when they last made the playoffs in 2022, they did so with a 9-7-1 record.

It goes without saying that the franchise has lost credibility for its poor performance on the field. Their schedule this season isn’t an easy one, as they have six opponents that made the playoffs in 2025. But if Harbaugh can lead his team to double-digit wins, it will help restore credibility to the franchise.
