The offseason feels like it’s only just beginning, yet the Detroit Lions have already been busy, showing they’re not afraid to shake things up. We’ve already seen the Lions hire Drew Petzing as the new offensive coordinator. Lions general manager Brad Holmes has also been shaking up the roster too.
On Monday, the Lions revealed that they’ve released offensive guard Graham Glasgow from the roster. A 10-year veteran, Glasgow has spent seven seasons in Detroit and three in Denver with the Broncos.
Glasgow has started 136 of the 147 games he’s appeared in since arriving as the 95th overall pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He started 14 of his 15 appearances last season for a Lions team that went 9-8.
Set to turn 34 in July, Glasgow shouldn’t have trouble finding another starting opportunity this offseason. He had one year left on his contract in Detroit, but releasing him saves $5.56 million in 2026. The Lions will also suffer a $2.88 million dead cap charge for moving on from Glasgow a year early.
The Lions have already acquired a potential replacement, by trading running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans in exchange for Juice Scruggs, plus a fourth and seventh-round selection. Scruggs, 26, is heading into the final year of his rookie contract and has started 20 of his 37 appearances since becoming the 62nd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
