The NFL is blessed to have a pair of siblings who are both among the best players at their position with Stefon Diggs and Trevon Diggs. Oddly enough, they play opposite positions, you could say, with Stefon Mossing defenders as a receiver and Trevon doing the same, only as a cornerback instead.
Of course, the younger brother, Trevon Diggs, plays for the Dallas Cowboys, one of the most high-profile jobs in football, even if he just plays defensive back. Yet, he happens to play that position very well, becoming a two-time Pro Bowler and even making an All-Pro team in his second season.
Now set to enter his fourth year in the NFL since becoming the 51st pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Diggs has just become a very, very rich man.
According to Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys have signed Diggs to a five-year, $97 million contract extension. His new deal also includes a $21.25 million signing bonus, a nice little cherry on top.
Since Diggs was not a first-round pick, he was not eligible for the standard fifth-year team option. This meant he was heading into the final year of his rookie contract. Obviously the Cowboys didn’t want to risk their top cornerback entering free agency at the end of the season.
Now Diggs becomes the fifth-highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, earning an average salary of $19.4 million per season. Set to turn 25 in September, Diggs should still have plenty of productive seasons ahead of him. In fact, chances are we’ve yet to see the former Alabama star at his peak.
