Several high-profile free agents remain available on the open market. But none are more accomplished than DeAndre Hopkins. Naturally, with how obsessed Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones is about pursuing his next Super Bowl victory, any time a talented player becomes available, you almost always hear the Cowboys linked, whether it’s just wishful thinking from fans or because of their strong advertising market.

In this case, Hopkins was made available thanks to the Arizona Cardinals releasing the 30-year-old in late May. Despite being a three-time All-Pro, the free agency market has been slow to develop for the player known by his family as ‘Nuk.’

Eventually, Hopkins will find a market for his services. It could simply be a matter of asking for too much money on his next contract, or maybe he’s just waiting for the right opportunity.

Could that lead the former Houston Texans receiver to join another Texas team?

Not according to Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, who insists the front office is content with their current group of wideouts.

“He’s (Hopkins) not on this team right now. We went down the road with (Brandin) Cooks. We’re very comfortable with Cooks. We’re pleased with our receiving group.”

Dallas Cowboys VP Stephen Jones on DeAndre Hopkins

Being that the Cowboys already have a strong cast of receivers led by CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and the recently acquired Brandin Cooks, it’s not hard to see why they wouldn’t have much interest in making their talented depth chart even more crowded headed into the season.

While injuries could always change their mindset later on, chances are, Hopkins will be long gone at that point.
