It’s safe to say the Houston Texans have zero regrets about their bold decision to select C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. While Bryce Young is struggling to make an instant impact, Stroud is taking the league by storm, helping the Texans get out to a 2-3 start while taking care of the football at an unprecedented rate.
Football fanatics are probably aware that Peyton Manning holds the all-time rookie interceptions record, with 28 picks thrown in a single season. The two-time Super Bowl-winning Hall of Fame QB set that mark back in 1998, and he’s been begging for someone to break his ‘record’ since.
But it won’t be Stroud who threatens Manning’s futile place in history.
Stroud is one of just two NFL starters who have yet to throw an interception this season (Brock Purdy is the other). Did we mention he’s a rookie?
Even though Stroud’s just 22 years old, he has a chance to do something no other rookie QB has ever done before, but he’ll have to maintain his perfect streak through Sunday’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who have intercepted the fourth-most passes in the NFL through five games.
Stroud, if he avoids throwing an interception on Sunday, will become the first-ever QB to start his first six games without tossing a pick. His 186 passes without an interception is already an NFL record. Stroud has a chance to put that mark even further out of reach, and then some, with another opportunity to carve his name in the record books.
As mentioned, the Texans probably don’t have any regrets about their decisions this past April, and Stroud is showing why.
