The Carolina Panthers are coming off their most successful season since 2017 after winning eight games and clinching a playoff berth. Though, the Panthers’ joy didn’t last long after being eliminated in the wild card round with a 34-31 loss to the Rams.

Now, the Panthers are working on strengthening the rest of Dave Canales’ coaching staff. On Wednesday, they made a fairly significant hire.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Panthers have hired Darrell Bevell as their new associate head coach/offensive specialist. Bevell spent the past four seasons as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator of the Miami Dolphins.

Bevell, 56, brings over three decades of NFL experience to the Panthers’ staff. That includes three seasons as an NFL QB coach, 15 seasons as an offensive coordinator, and parts of two seasons as an interim head coach. Yet, his biggest accomplishment is helping the Seattle Seahawks defeat the Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII as their offensive coordinator.

Bevell had also been under consideration and even interviewed for the Jets’ offensive coordinator position this offseason, but that job ended up going to former NFL head coach Frank Reich instead.

Bevell has experience working in several different offensive schemes, and he’ll be able to use his expertise to see if he can help Carolina’s scoring offense improve too.
