The Buffalo Bills always seem to come up a bit short. That’s been the story for Bills fans for 66 seasons, making four Super Bowl appearances, but failing to hoist the Lombardi Trophy each time. Their recent playoff failures are part of the reason why they fired head coach Sean McDermott after nine seasons with the team.

Now that the Bills have promoted Joe Brady from offensive coordinator to head coach, Buffalo can start planning on how to improve the roster. One obvious way to improve the scoring attack would be to get their MVP quarterback some more help.

Recently, Sports Illustrated‘s Albert Breer suggested a pair of receivers who could greatly benefit the Bills.

“One would be 27-year-old Seahawks receiver Rashid Shaheed, who may be a match made in heaven for Josh Allen—a deep threat who could weaponize Allen’s ability to push the ball downfield. Shaheed’s never had a season with 60 catches or 750 yards, but the potential tied to his game-breaking ability is tantalizing. And until he joined the Seahawks midseason this year, he never had much stability at quarterback.”

SI on Bills WR targets

Breer believes that the Bills would be wise to chase after pending free agents Rashid Shaheed from Seattle or Alec Pierce from Indianapolis.

Shaheed just helped the Seahawks win a Super Bowl as an All-Pro receiver/returner. He’d surely help the Bills in multiple aspects too, giving Allen a new deep threat with speed to burn.

“The other would be 25-year-old Colts receiver Alec Pierce, who had 47 catches, 1,003 yards (that’s a 21.3-yard average) and six touchdowns this year in 15 games. That was after a 37-catch, 824-yard (22.3-yard average), seven-touchdown season in 2025, with a really challenging quarterback situation. Add Pierce’s 6’3″, 211-pound frame to the equation, and how he would fit alongside Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid, and he’d be the one for me. We’ll see what happens, but add Pierce to Shakir, Kincaid, Keon Coleman, Dawson Knox and James Cook, and I think Allen would be positioned for a real run.”

SI, continued

Meanwhile, Pierce is a 6-foot-3 receiver who likely hasn’t met his full potential as a 25-year-old former third-round pick. He’s coming off a career year with 1,003 receiving yards, averaging an NFL-best 21.3 yards per reception.

Either way, the Bills are likely to consider receiver upgrades this offseason and both free agents may be exactly what Buffalo is looking for.
