Many of the same players will return in 2026, but the Buffalo Bills will have a much different feel next season. The biggest one will obviously be at head coach after firing Sean McDermott and promoting offensive coordinator Joe Brady to replace him. Yet, the Bills will also be making roster changes too.
One of those moves already took place on Wednesday. But it likely won’t change the Bills’ trajectory in any way.
According to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, the Bills have signed quarterback Shane Buechele to a futures contract. While he may be nothing more than camp filler and another offseason arm to get some reps in with their pass-catchers, Buechele and the Bills are very familiar with one another.
The 28-year-old former undrafted QB out of SMU spent three seasons with the Bills from 2023 to 2025, but a neck injury wiped out the entirety of his season in 2024. He also spent two seasons with the Chiefs from 2021 to 2022 and re-joined them late during this past year after Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew both suffered season-ending injuries.
Buechele has appeared in just one game, which came in 2025 when he completed 7-of-14 passes for 88 yards.
Buechele’s father, Steve, played 11 seasons in MLB as a third baseman. Now, his son is hoping for a better opportunity under coach Brady than he received under coach McDermott.
