After firing Jonathan Gannon and hiring Mike LaFleur as the new head coach, the Arizona Cardinals have already gone through some major changes this offseason. Though, more changes are likely on the way, possibly even with Kyler Murray finding a new team.
Murray is already guaranteed a salary of $36.8 million in 2026. If he’s still on the Cardinals’ roster by the start of the new league year on March 11, his contract will initiate a $20 million guarantee for 2027 as well. Thus, some believe the Cardinals are more likely to release their former franchise quarterback if a trade can’t be reached.
Recently, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network revealed that no matter what, whether it’s via trade or release, the Cardinals “are likely to move on from Murray” this offseason.
Previous reports indicated that if the Cardinals are able to find a trade partner for Murray, he likely wouldn’t fetch anything more than a Day 2 selection. Yet, for the Cardinals, getting anything for him in return is better than cutting him and getting nothing at all.
Murray, 28, is a two-time Pro Bowl QB. Yet, he only played five games for the Cardinals last season and was benched for Jacoby Brissett by the end of the season. Now, another team may be eyeing the former No. 1 pick as their next starting quarterback, hoping they can help maximize his potential.
