NFL insider warns New York Giants and Jets about picking QB in Round 1 by revealing scary opinions of 2025 draft class

A notable NFL insider offered up another warning to the New York Giants and New York Jets this week about possibly using their Round 1 pick on a 2025 quarterback prospect.

This will be a very important next few months for both the Giants and Jets. The New York football teams finished in the bottom 10 of the standings this season and there’s a lot of pressure on their front office to turn things around. G-Men general manager Joe Schoen is trying to keep his job beyond 2025 while new Gang Green GM Darren Mougey is trying to get off to a fast start in the role.

Both clubs have picks in the top seven of April’s NFL Draft and the pair of teams both need to find a potential franchise QB. That is why they have both been linked to the top signal-caller prospects in this year’s class.

A couple of months ago, it seemed like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders — the top two QBs in 2025 — may be selected before one or both teams are on the clock. However, in recent weeks they are both slipping down draft boards and are likely to be available when the Giants and Jets pick.

But on Tuesday, SNY NFL insider Connor Hughes offered up a clear warning to both teams about why they should be wary of selecting either player with their picks at three and seven, respectively.

“This isn’t a good quarterback class,” Hughes began by writing. “Maybe time will make that assessment obsolete. But this is nothing like other years from a prospect-grading perspective. Cam Ward (Miami) and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) are the top two quarterbacks available. They’d be the fifth or sixth quarterbacks off the board if in last year’s class. Multiple sources agreed with SNY.

“Michael Penix, drafted No. 8 overall by the Falcons a year ago, is a far better prospect. J.J. McCarthy, drafted No. 11 by the Vikings, would be the undeniable “Quarterback 1” of this year’s class, three sources told SNY.”

  • New York Jets record (2024): 5-12

It is not a great look for either QB. The Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns both badly need a quarterback and most mock drafts have them passing on Ward and Sanders when they make their picks at one and two. Fortunately for the Giants and Jets, they have to fill a lot of holes and going best player available in Round 1 is an understandable approach as well.
