NFL unofficially approves Washington Commanders sale, resolves legal issues with Dan Snyder

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Even if no deal was reached, running backs stole headlines on Monday afternoon in the football community. But Dan Snyder and the Washington Commanders still got some business done with the NFL, clearing the way for the official sale of the franchise.

According to The Washington Post, Snyder and the NFL reached an agreement resolving all legal issues that could have potentially hampered the sale of the team. This means when the league’s owners meet on Thursday, they’ll be able to vote to approve the official sale of the Commanders franchise to the Josh Harris group in the previously mentioned $6.05 billion deal.

The sale must be approved by 2/3 of the league’s owners or receive 24 out of 32 votes. With the latest agreement between the NFL and Snyder, the official sale of the Commanders is expected to be finalized as soon as Friday.

Keep in mind, the NFL’s investigation being led by Mary Jo White into the actions of Snyder and the Commanders is still underway. The Post speculates that we could learn the results of the investigation in the very near future. Either way, the runway for a Commanders sale has finally been cleared after Monday’s agreement.
