The next generation of the Earnhardt lineage made both his pavement racing and full-bodied stock car debut on Saturday night and Wyatt Miller nearly won a Limited Late Model race at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Miller is the 13-year-old son of Kelley Earnhardt-Miller and LW Miller — and thus the the nephew of Dale Earnhardt Jr. He is the grandson of Dale Earnhardt Sr.
The Late Model Stock Car is the highest level of pavement short track racing in the Mid-Atlantic and the Limited Late Model is the underpowered version of the same car and a training platform designed to prepare younger drivers for that next step.
Miller ran inside the top-five all race, capitalizing on some attrition ahead of him, and was running third inside of five to go when he began pressuring the leaders and nearly outright won the race.
William Aldred held on to his wheel to win the race. Miller was very honest about his intentions.
“There at the end, I just tried to move him out of the way a little bit but it didnt work,”Miller said. “Hats off to him.”
